long ago and far away

Once upon a time, I was tan in the summer. I remember sunny summer days before jobs, bills, and responsibility when my only obligations were to the sun and and my swimsuit and the swimming pool beckoning me toward it. Nowadays, the only baking I am doing involves an oven, and I have to admit, despite knowing I don't need to destroy my skin any further(I have lately noticed years of sun damage appearing on my skin) a slight pang of jealously strikes me whenever I spot someone nearby with that delicious glow of summer. As I type and glance down at my slight pale forearms, I long for the days when summer meant being outside, not seeing the eerie glow of fluorescent lighting on my palish skin. Oh well, such is life. I hope all you blog readers out there are lucky enough to spend some time outside, hopefully by a swimming pool, just don't forget your sunscreen!

I am in the same boat. I think this has been the palest summer of my life. I see tan people on the bus going to work too, and I can't help but wonder how they got their glow (perhaps they have a beach house and spend every minute of the weekend in the sun...)

But I guess I will console my very pale self by thinking about the things that come with the sun kissed look-- wrinkles and cancer.

I am SOO pale this summer too. It's pretty depressing.
